The Magic Of Hula
Hawaii is not only a place full of wonderful beaches and friendly people. It is also a sweet place that is the origin of the Hula dance. It has been passed from generation to generation to preserve Hawaii’s lovely and rich culture. Hula has played major role in promoting Hawaii for tourism. Hula’s music now has evolved from traditional to the more popular styles.
Hula is more about chanting and dance. It was used to communicate and express praise through their festivals and secular events. It was also functional in Hawaii’s genealogy and mythology. The rhythms, music, instruments and motion of the dancers express their emotions. No words could compare how hula has captured our hearts.
Hula is rich in poetry. Mimetic dance is the language. Hula and other Hawaiian dances and music always tell a story. Hula was meant to be a religious dance to tell a story about the Islands of Hawaii. It is incorporating unique sign language and dance. The meaning of each movement of the hands gives focus to different things like the flowers, people, animals, water and love.
The influence of Hula has already reached worldwide. When it comes to traditional dances, it is one of the most performed and loved during celebrations. Maybe that is because of the magic on the chants and movement done through the hands. The dancers also come very attractive in their wrapped skirts. The leis on their neck and their smiles capture anyone who is watching them.
I have always wanted to learn how to dance the Hula. I feel like it could be one of the dances that could be calming in effect of the motion done in the dance. Being in Hawaii is not worth it if you do not get to dance the hula. The way they do it is spectacular. It does not only give entertainment but also grace. I learned that to be able to do it gracefully, you have to do proper breathing and chanting. The art of moving your hand is started by stretching it out and then doing graceful acts on the things included on the melody of the song.
The meaning through movement of hands in the Hula dance is conveying how the Hawaiians love their islands and the things they see around. I know that Hula will come a long way after this generation. It will surely be passed on to our great granddaughters. Now that I know more about Hula, I could say that I am appreciating and loving Hawaii more than ever.
Staying in a beautiful place with overflowing culture through their dance is more than worth it. The dancers who are teaching me how to do the Hula properly are experts. The costume is great and I am actually collecting them for the future. When I become a pro at Hula dancing, maybe I could teach other people too.
Hula is magic to me! The beaches plus Hula is extraordinary! Living in Hawaii and having a longer vacation is on the list.
